This is day 2 of using the Shea Moisture Curl and Hold Smoothie, and I must say that this is an absolute MUST for my hair (which I believe is 3b/c but not sure)  I will do a formal review later this week.  I just wanna bring out how much more my curls are defined and boy do they POP! I barely have 2 inches.  This is definitely a keeper.

Product Reviews : Shea Moisture

Target stores already started carrying Shea Moisture's Body care line.  I have yet to try those products but they smell heavenly.  Once my Bath and Body Works stockpile dwindles down I will be trying the rest of those products.  On a trip the Target to check out there new Black-owned hair care line my friend purchased the Shea Butter Conditioner We used it on my hair post hair color and it smells divine! It has a thin texture and is definitley not a Deep conditioner.  Nonetheless it makes for a great co-wash conditioner or a leave-in.  The following are the ingredients: Deionized Water, Butyrospermum Parkii(Shea Butter)*,Argan Oil,Coconut Oil*,Behentrimonium Chloride, Essential Oil Blend,Vegetable Glycerin, Emulsifying Wax,Sea Kelp Extract, Panthenol(Vitamin B-5), Avocado Oil, Lonicera Caprifolium(Honeysuckle) Flower(and)Loncera Japonica (Japaneses Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Tocopherol( Vitamin E), Daucus Carota Sativa(Carrot) Seed Oil.

*Certified Organic
It has Mz Crown and Glory's stamp of approval as well as a price tag of $9.99 you can't beat ot woth a stick. Definitely a staple.

Next I bought the Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque:Deionized Water, Butyrosperosperumum Parkii (Shea Butter), Argan oil, Cetyl Esters, Sea Kelp Extract, Pathenol(Vitamin B-5) Ammonium Salt, Essential Oil Blend, Avacado Oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower(and) Lonicera Japonica (Japenese Honeysuckle) Flower extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) Hyssopus Officinalis Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf and Equisetum Arvense Extract, Soybean Oil, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil.

This conditioner is very, very, very yummy.  The smell is to die for.  Last night I applied a liberal amount to my hair and applied it as a "masque" and the title says.  I placed a plastic cap on my head and left it on for about 1hr.  Rinsed with cool water and let my hair air dry, it feels very soft and moisturized.  I give it my stamp of approval once again. At $9.99 a bottle, It is definitely in rotation in my weekly deep conditioning regimen.

Up Next Shea Moisture's Curl & Hold Smoothie

Spur of the moment BC

Sat, 05/01/2010 - 4:45PM by RachelRA 0 Comments - 70 Views

Last Wednsday I was feeling some type of why.  Practically all week I was feeling like this.  So out of the blue I BBM my friend who is also in cosmetology school with me.  I told her that night when I was done with my client that she was chopping my hair off.  This would be the 3rd time in 12 months that i have cut my hair.  I have gotten a lot of completments on my cut TWA and freshly dyed hair as well.  I plan on keeping it short for a few months maybe throughout the summer.  But it will be back to BAA for me.  Here are a couple of pictures.

I went to the only Target in my city that carries the Natural hair lines.  I was anticipating buying CURLS and using it this week in to post a review next week.  Pretty much everything was gone.  So I will only be posting 1 review on the Miss Jessie's new shampoo and conditioner.  Hopefully they will be restocked by my off day on Tuesday.

My Hairography

Thu, 04/22/2010 - 3:05PM by RachelRA 0 Comments - 17 Views

As a little girl I had long thick hair down my back. My mom would from time to time hot comb my hair but for the most part she would put in cornrows. You could always find me combing and styling my baby dolls' hair. While other girls my age wanted outfits for their dolls, cars and dream houses I just wanted dolls with hair. The older I got the more my interest grew in doing hair. My own hair became increasingly difficult to manage. I don't know who made the suggestion for me to get a relaxer myself or my mother but by the 6th grade my hair was relaxed. True to form I could not keep my hands out of my hair it was now straight, silky and bouncy. However it would never be long again, and I wouldn't know the reason why until almost 13 yrs later. I was in the Beauty Supply Store constatntly, just walking up and down the aisles studying every type of product. I bought the popular hair magazines and copied every single style I could. I knew all the latest hair trends and never lost touch with the older ones. I went to salons from time to time when my parents could afford it but for the most part I was my own stylist. My relatives had me styling their hair and my mother had her high school daughter coloring her hair for her. By the time I was in high school I was knowledgeable of what treatments my damaged tresses needed. If I couldn't achieve it I would weave it. By my senior year in high school I knew I loved everything math, writing and hair. When it came to deciding post high school plans I choose hair, my parents didn't think that was a wise career path. I then choose journalism, I was a communications major in high school and absolutely loved English class so I can write papers. Again, my parents didn't foresee me making a living off writing. So I entered the medical field. Fast forward to age 21, I had moved out of my parents house and had 2 roommates. One day I mentioned to one of them about my desire to go natural. Her words to me was "that is not for people our age. That's something you do when you turn 30." And I listened. 2 years later after I got married I was tired of the breakage, tired of growing my hair to my shoulders and it breaking off. Then because of the breakage cutting it short, or getting braids, or wearing lifeless ponytails. I wanted overall healthy wonderful hair that reflected my personality and exuded confidence. So after my wedding I cut my hair within 2 inches of its life. 3 months later in 2005 I said goodbye to my relaxed ends. I haven't had a relapse and haven't looked back. Here I am today with a ton of ideas spinning in my head and amazing things that I want to do. I am enrolled in cosmetology school part time, I feel this will open so many doors for me to take the beauty industry by storm.

Poos

Mon, 04/19/2010 - 8:22PM by RachelRA 0 Comments - 19 Views

Some queens choose to co-wash(conditioner wash). But many choose to stick with weekly shampoos.  When choosing a hair product I try to may sure that it has low or no harsh chemicals in it.  A wonderful site that goes into further detail on harmful chemicals in hair products can be found at http://livecurlylivefree.com/.  I am currently using this  Shikakai Bar which I bought at a local indian grocery store for only $1.50. It isn't as moisturizing as I would like but it really does clean well.  Next on the list to try is Devacurl "No Poo".  The description on www.curlmart.com reads as follows "No-Poo's lather-free formula cleanses and hydrates severely dry hair and scalp while restoring frizzy and unmanageable curls. Also a superb prescription for color or chemically treated hair. No-Poo's lather-free formula cleanses and hydrates severely dry hair and scalp while restoring frizzy and unmanageable curls. Also a superb prescription for color or chemically treated hair. The infusion of peppermint and menthol stimulates the scalp and wakes up curls . . . a must-have in every curly girl's shower caddie." I have had a couple people swear buy it. It can be purchased at you local Ulta Salon or online.  I also have a sample pack of Miss Jessie's Creme De La Curl shampoo conditioner. I have heard reviews that this was very moisturizing along with the conditioner. It can be purchased online or at select Target stores.  Look for a review on both the shampoo and conditioner in about a week.

Deep Conditioner

Tue, 04/13/2010 - 8:52PM by RachelRA 0 Comments - 24 Views

As I try to "lift" my hair a couple of shades for something to match my personality I must do weekly conditioning treatments to my hair. Right now I am using Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner I leave it in as long as I possibly can. I dont have a hair steamer (yet).  So I put a plastic cap over my head, finish my shower and dress.  When I am done I heat up a damp face towel in the microwave and sit it on top of my head. That is my creative steam method.  I purchased this from Target and it can also be found at Whole Foods.  While I like it a lot, I dont LOVE this as a deep conditioner treatment.  I may still keep it in rotation for weekly treatments but I am in need of something deeper.  So I am in the market for a yummy deep conditioner, which means there will be product reviews soon.
